Job Description

Job Summary

Develops and presents comprehensive financial plans, including complex estate and business succession analysis and recommendations, for HNW and UHNW clients. Serves as Synovus Securities' subject matter expert in the areas of financial, estate, and business succession planning. May lead the day-to-day activities of an assigned team.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and presents comprehensive financial plans, including complex estate and business succession components, for HNW and UHNW clients. Coordinates and facilitates engagement with team members and with clients' tax and legal advisors.
  • Works in a team environment to manage the estate, business succession, and financial planning process from discovery through plan delivery, maintaining communication with clients and team members as needed to coordinate the process.
  • Oversees the preparation of client-facing materials such as cash flow statements, tax projections, asset allocation analysis, insurance sufficiency analysis, and retirement planning analysis.
  • Prepares and presents estate and business succession analyses and recommendations consistent with clients' goals, including revisions to wills and trusts, advanced estate tax mitigation techniques, strategies and transactions designed to accomplish clients' business succession objectives.
  • Serves as Synovus Securities' subject matter expert in the areas of financial planning, estate planning, and business succession planning.
  • Promotes Synovus Financial Planning's Advanced Estate and Business Succession Planning services to sales officers and leaders in appropriate areas of the company, including Securities, Private Wealth, Trust, Commercial and Community Bank.
  • Curates content for and leads financial, estate, and business succession planning seminars as needed. Provides coaching and counsel on planning strategies and related topics throughout the company as necessary.
  • Develops and executes comprehensive plan to train Certified Financial Planner® team members in sophisticated estate and business succession planning concepts.
  • Authors technical pieces on financial planning and related topics.
  • Maintains a current knowledge base of trends, guidelines, rules, and standards of practice governing the use of financial products and services. Continues an on-going professional development plan designed to build experience, skills, and knowledge.

Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Financial Planning or a related field. CPA certification or graduate degree such as Master of Science in Accounting or Juris Doctorate is strongly preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Six years of experience working with UHNW and HNW clients in the areas of financial planning, estate planning and business succession planning.

Certifications:

  • CFP® certification: FINRA Series 7, 63, 65 (or 66) licenses.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the federal guidelines, rules, and standards governing the use of financial planning services
  • Knowledge of investment, personal insurance and other financial products and their applications in the financial planning process
  • Knowledge of federal income and estate tax systems as they apply to the personal financial planning process
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with customers
  • Strong analytical skills, and the ability to be detail oriented
  • Organizational skills, and the ability to maintain information in a logical and understandable manner
  • Ability to be politically savvy and ability to position the products and services of the financial institution

Additional Information

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Certified Public Accountant certification, Master of Science in Accounting, or Juris Doctorate strongly preferred
  • Life, Disability, and Annuity licenses
  • Extensive knowledge of eMoney platform, or one or more commercially prevalent comprehensive financial planning applications, such as Naviplan MoneyGuidePro, etc
