About Bordeaux Wealth Advisors

Bordeaux Wealth Advisors is an independent investment advisory and wealth management firm with over $4.1 billion in assets under management across 200 families.  We have offices in Menlo Park, California, and Seattle, Washington -- areas that are synonymous with innovation, entrepreneurship and wealth creation.

We act as personal CFOs for high net worth individuals and families in growing, preserving and transferring wealth.  Our mission is to serve as our clients’ most trusted advisor -- guiding them to achieve their financial goals and objectives -- and enabling them to achieve their ideal future. We take a holistic approach of one’s entire financial situation and deliver guidance on investment portfolio construction, income tax and cash flow planning, estate and wealth transfer, insurance and risk management, education and retirement planning, as well as philanthropic gifting.

The Associate Internship

You will learn and experience what it is like to serve the financial needs of high net worth individuals and families. You will be exposed to the various components of wealth management - from income tax to estate planning to investment management. You will experience how we help our clients diversify and invest their assets, plan to distribute their wealth, and manage their various financial decisions. Some of your responsibilities will likely include the following:

  • You will assist with generating financial plans, helping clients understand their current and projected financial situation. You will evaluate an investment opportunity and build the proposal for our Investment Committee to review and approve the investment.  If approved, we will then introduce the investment to our clients. You will generate client reports detailing their investment performance, asset allocation and net worth. You will learn how these reports are created, how the data is calculated and why they are important tools used during a client meeting. You will assist with marketing activities that help us reach and educate our intended audience about the value of our services. Identify ways to stay top of mind to our prospective clients, including through external outreach via the web or social media. You will help us create case studies highlighting some of the great work that we have done for our clients.  You will learn firsthand the value that we add to our clients’ lives, and you will be able to articulate it to others.  When someone asks you what Bordeaux does, you will be able to answer them with clarity and examples!  You will manage data in ways that improves our ability to service clients. This may involve data entry, list building or cleansing data. You will develop technical knowledge and skills that are important to our high net worth clients, and to the role as a Wealth Advisor

This is a full-time, paid internship. Start and end dates are flexible based on your school schedule. We are targeting approximately 10 weeks of work.

After the Internship at Bordeaux Wealth Advisors

  • You will obtain great exposure to many of the facets of wealth management. You will know which parts are most interesting to you and where you may want to focus future studies / electives should financial or investment advisory work be a potential career path. You will be able to confidently speak about wealth management, not because you studied it, but because you lived it. Our intention is to seek high-performing interns for possible full-time employment upon graduation.

Your Qualifications

  • You have a sincere interest in personal finance, investing and an interest in helping families manage their complex financial lives. You are considering pursuing a role in personal finance or investment management after graduation. You are service-oriented. This role is about learning how to serve clients to the highest of standards. We do this because we truly want to improve the financial lives of our clients. You are very comfortable with technology and learning new software packages as you will be using various software programs throughout your time at BWA. You exhibit a strong attention to detail and continuously pursue excellence in all that you do. This can be seen in your coursework, your course selection as well as your extracurricular activities. You have a strong desire to accomplish tasks and complete your responsibilities. You have a particular motivation, drive and determination to achieve something on schedule, and you gain momentum through achievement. We have a hybrid work environment so you can expect to have some good face-to-face personal interaction a couple of days per week.  We prefer candidates with some ties to the Bay Area.

Majors

  • Business, Finance, Economics or Accounting degrees are preferred. Others will be considered as long as there is a demonstrated interest in wealth management.
