Position Summary

Avantax Wealth Management, a subsidiary of Blucora and sister company to Avantax Planning Partners and TaxAct, is seeking a Manager of Financial Planning that will be responsible for leading and directing the Financial Planning Team. The Financial Planning Team assists Avantax Planning Partners’ (APP) Financial Planning Consultants (FPCs) with high net-worth client acquisition and retention through the development of financial plans and advanced planning solutions that meet client needs. The person in this position will prepare high-quality deliverables and projected planning scenarios to present to CPA Affiliates, prospects, and current clients. The Manager of Financial Planning will meet with clients at the request of the FPC to present and explain the deliverables and recommended strategy. They must have a comprehensive knowledge of advanced planning practice areas including investment management, risk management, income tax, retirement planning, qualified plans, executive compensation, business succession planning, and estate tax planning. This position will develop ongoing working relationships with APP financial planning consultants and our CPA partners on behalf of clients.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Review and analyze the following documents and ascertain relevant planning information and opportunities:

  • Buy/sell agreements.
  • Stock option agreements.
  • Executive compensation agreements.
  • Retirement plan documents.
  • Federal and state tax returns.
  • Estate planning documents.
  • Gift and estate tax returns.
  • Investment and bank account statements.
  • Retirement account statements.
  • Mortgages and loans.
  • Personal Financial Statements.
  • Insurance policies (life, long-term care).
  • Annuities (fixed and variable).
  • Paystubs.
  • Social Security statements.
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of financial planning software.
  • Follow the procedure to enter client data into the financial planning software.
  • Analyze data for advanced planning opportunities and recommendations to provide to FPCs in the form of advanced plans and plan documentation.

Devolop and/or review and approve deliverables for client meetings, including (but not limited to):

  • Balance Sheet / Net Worth Statement.
  • Cash Flow Analysis (including Social Security recommendations).
  • Income Tax Analysis.
  • Estate Plan.
  • Risk Management Analysis.
  • Investment Analysis.
  • Planning Scenarios (e.g., retirement planning, estate planning, education planning, etc.).
  • Explain and present all the above deliverables to CPA affiliates, prospects, and clients.
  • Quickly analyze and assess new information while in client meetings and make appropriate changes to the plan.
  • Maintain ongoing expertise in advanced planning strategies and how they are used.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with FPCs, CPA affiliates, prospects, and clients.
  • Lead client meetings (in person or via web conference) as requested by the financial advisor to present the planning options for the client or prospect.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders including but not limited to, Client Development Specialists, Financial Planning Consultants, Risk Management, Investment Consulting, and Research Retirement Plan Services.
  • Develop content and deliver effective presentations at APP conferences and/or webinars.
  • Determine action steps for planning strategy and follow through on plan implementation.
  • Meet assigned due dates and provide documentation for all plans and advanced techniques entered or recommended.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Initiate projects and develop deliverables for the benefit of the planning team and APP as needed.
  • Provide training and support to other team members and review their work product to ensure quality.
  • Uphold, support, and promote all company policies and procedures.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Lead, direct and monitor the financial planning team.
  • Responsible for goal planning and goal tracking for the team and individual contributors.
  • Responsible for the professional development of team members.
  • Define workflow processes to achieve team and company goals.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong computer skills with MS Word, Excel, CRM Database, PowerPoint, Email, and Internet usage.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:

  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required.

  • Constant mental and/or visual attention; the work is either repetitive or diversified requiring constant alertness in an office environment.
