General Function:

The Manager, Stewardship and Engagement (MSE) provides excellent and energetic fundraising support to the Center’s Managing Director and its Director of Development. He/She will be responsible for implementing and managing comprehensive donor relations, stewardship, recognition, and retention program in support of the development efforts of the Center’s Leadership Team. This position requires a mix of back-end systems management and some frontline donor interactions. This position is based in the CFP Board headquarters located in Washington DC. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Careful short- and long-term planning and scheduling will help set deadlines and ensure they are met. 
  • Donors and prospects will experience excellent, gratifying interactions with the Center, ultimately resulting in increased funding.
  • Donor communications of all kinds are timely, relevant, creative, and interactive.
  • Collaboration with colleagues across CFP Board will increase familiarity with the Center’s work, make it more relevant to theirs, and help build relationships with all audiences. 

 Major Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Center’s Leadership Team to develop strategies and build a pipeline for new six and seven-figure prospects. 
  • Identify, research, cultivate, and at times solicit a portfolio of donors and prospects in support of a comprehensive major gifts program (individual, corporate, foundation, planned, and online giving).
  • Collaborate on the development of proposals and other fundraising materials.
  • Create and distribute effective and timely communications, including acknowledgment letters and other correspondence, stewardship reports, newsletters, special mailings, telephone calls, and in-person meetings. 
  • Develop systems to ensure that plans are implemented, goals are achieved, timely reports and other stewardship materials are generated, deadlines are met, and information is shared. 
  • Advanced capabilities with data management, database optimization, and data analytics using Salesforce, NetFORUM, and other data systems.
  • Serve as liaison to Accounting and IT departments to ensure accurate and timely acknowledgement of gifts.
  • Serve as liaison to Marketing and Communications departments to plan and implement an annual donor cultivation calendar. 
  • Limited travel, as needed.

Background/Skills/Abilities Preferred: 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution 
  • A minimum of 5 to7 years of fundraising experience
  • Proven record of accomplishment of managing high-capacity donors and closing gifts
  • Proven track record with previous non-profit(s) and the ability to successfully raise funds, create presentations, manage direct mail activities, and fulfill corporate donor information requests
  • Proven track record of experience in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals, foundations, and corporations 
  • Demonstrated ability in high-level strategic planning and project management
  • Superior written and oral communications skills, with keen attention to detail
  • Passion for the gravity of the Center for Financial Planning and its mission, and the ability to communicate its urgency
  • Tactful exercise of judgment and discretion with sensitive and highly confidential information
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; high degree of emotional intelligence; demonstrated ability to relate well with individuals, both internally and externally
  • Flexible and adaptable working style; ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Entrepreneurially-inclined; resourceful, proactive, and results-driven
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and database software, preferably Salesforce
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate with program leaders and serve as an effective member of a team
  • Superior oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills

This position is based in the Washington D.C. office and works a hybrid schedule which could be changed at any time.
