Job Details
The Department of Family and Consumer Studies (FCS) in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (CSBS) at the University of Utah invites applications for a career-line faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor (Lecturer). The faculty member will have an 80% teaching and 20% service nine-month, full-time appointment in the FCS. The initial contract will be for the academic year 2023-2024, although it is expected to renew with subsequent appointments of a longer duration, dependent upon performance, departmental needs, and budgetary approvals. In partnership with Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), the University of Utah is expanding course offerings at an instructional site in Herriman, Utah, located approximately 30 miles from the main campus in Salt Lake City.
All full-time employees are provided a health benefit plan. University of Utah's career-line faculty structure includes a renewable contract and multi-year appointments (for details, see: https://academic-affairs.utah.edu/faculty-handbook/faculty-appointments/ and https://regulations.utah.edu/academics/6-300.php). We are looking for faculty who are excited to support the educational mission of the Department and strengthen our award-winning Financial Planning and Counseling program.
The successful applicant will be administratively housed in the Herriman campus, with shared responsibilities to support the Financial Planning and Counseling Program at the main campus. This position will contribute directly to the teaching needs of the Herriman campus: Research Methods, Statistics, Family Economics, or Investments, as well as other relevant courses required by the Financial Planning and Counseling Program of FCS at the main campus, registered with the CFP® Board and AFCPE®. In-person classes will be scheduled in Herriman, though teaching responsibilities will also include online classes that serve both the main campus and the Herriman campus. This position also will be responsible for coordinating our program with SLCC and providing administrative support for the Program Director at the main campus. The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree or be expected to earn a doctoral degree before July 2023 in Family Resource Management, Personal Financial Planning, Consumer Sciences, and similar fields. Having a CFP® designation or being on track to earn the designation is strongly desired.
The University of Utah recognizes that a diverse faculty benefits and enriches the educational experiences of the entire campus and greater community. The Department of Family & Consumer Studies s is deeply committed to equity and social justice and strives to remove barriers that have been traditionally encountered by individuals from underrepresented groups. We, therefore, actively seek to recruit faculty who will further enhance our diversity. The Department has a history of valuing excellent teaching and providing a supportive environment for attaining academic and professional goals and milestones.
