Requirements & Applicable Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or similar designation. 5-10 years of experience as an advisor Registration with the SEC Strong financial planning background Expert knowledge of financial options, including investments, savings accounts and stock options Comprehensive understanding and application of investment strategies Full knowledge of with securities, mutual fund and insurance industries Expertise in interpretation of market data Proficiency in MS Suite, account management databases and financial planning software Analytical thinking skills and ability to assess a clients’ needs Excellent communication abilities, including writing, speaking and active listening Effective presentation and customer service skills Strong time-management skills and ability to work independently

Position Summary

A Charter Oak Capital Management (COCM) Financial Advisor will act as the Lead Advisor for their client relationship and facilitate the tasks for their client’s service team.  The Financial Advisor will have the ability to deliver all aspects of client advising and management, with occasional support and assistance from a Senior Financial Advisor.  

The Financial Advisor is responsible for overseeing or directly coordinating and preparing for client meetings, making sure the necessary documents are prepared and outstanding agenda items are addressed.  The Financial Advisor will facilitate all aspects of the client relationship, and work with Associate Advisors, Client Service Associates, Team Coordinators, and other COCM staff to make sure Clients needs are being met. Financial Advisors are able to meet with clients for client reviews, execute custodial or COCM required documents, or help with a better understanding of accounts or plans. While sourcing business is not a primary role, it is highly encouraged.

 

Portfolio Management  

Financial Advisors have full trading authority and are responsible for the maintenance of their client portfolios.  They will provide guidance to the Associate Advisor when applicable and they will seek the guidance of Senior Financial Advisors when necessary or needed. 

Financial Planning and Advice  

Financial Advisors are expected to provide clients with financial advice and are able to deliver a full financial plan to a client independent of outside assistance.  They can independently act as the clients full Wealth Manager and Financial Advisor.  They will provide guidance to the Associate Advisor when applicable and they will seek the guidance of Senior Financial Advisors when necessary or needed. 

 

Behavioral Management  

Financial Advisors will be the primary conductor in helping clients achieve their goals, by coaching them through transitions, keeping them focused when the news of the day distracts their attention; generally, they will work to eliminate poor financial decisions based upon emotional tendencies.  Financial Advisors can receive assistance from Associate Advisors on conducting all pre and post client meeting communications as well as unscheduled client calls. 

Financial Advisors can work with Senior Financial Advisors on complex cases however, the role is meant to be an independent lead, a full wealth management role on a client relationship.   Each Financial Advisor should manage a minimum of 100 households with a maximum 165. 

Compensation & Benefits

The Financial Advisor’s salary is commensurate with experience and will be consistent with industry salary surveys within our competitive marketplace.

A Financial Advisor will have the opportunity to work remotely 1-2 days per week depending on their in-office schedule and only once full training and in-office learning with all Partners is completed.
