Associate Advisor, Charter Oak Capital Management

Requirements & Applicable Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field 1-5 years of experience in the financial industry Registration with the SEC Financial planning experience a plus Firm knowledge of financial options, including investments, savings accounts and stock options General knowledge of investment strategies Familiarity with securities, mutual fund and insurance industries Understanding of market data Proficiency in MS Suite, exposure to account management database, CRM or financial planning software a plus Analytical thinking skills and ability to assess a clients’ needs Excellent communication abilities, including writing, speaking and active listening Effective presentation and customer service skills Strong time-management skills and ability to work independently.

Position Summary

The Associate Advisor acts as a liaison between the Client, Charter Oak Capital Management (COCM), and the Senior Financial Advisor or Financial Advisor, i.e. the Lead Advisor on the relationship.  The Associate Advisor will be responsible for coordinating and preparing for client meetings, updating financial plans and making sure the necessary documents are prepared and outstanding agenda items are addressed. 

The Associate Advisor attends at least 50% of client meetings for households which they are assigned.  They will aid the Lead Advisor in all aspects of the client relationship, and work with CSA's, Team Coordinators, and other COCM staff to make sure clients’ needs are being met.  Associate Advisors do not meet with clients without a Lead Advisor except to execute basic custodial or COCM required documents, help with non-advice-based client needs such as account access, rollovers, and transfers. 

Portfolio Management  

Associate Advisors may have trading authority dependent upon designations.  Trade rebalancing can be modeled but must be reviewed, and approved, by a Lead Advisor before execution. 

Financial Planning and Advice   

No planning advice shall be given to clients without the expressed approval and guidance from a Lead Advisor.  Financial Plans will likely be prepared on behalf of clients but must be reviewed and approved by the Lead Advisor. 

Behavioral Management  

Associate Advisors will be the first line of communication for unscheduled client calls helping clients with basic needs, reading statements, tax documents, address changes, and communicating more complex questions to the Lead Advisor, while also coordinating scheduled call backs.  

Associate Advisors work with a minimum of 2 different Lead Advisors and often the entire Charter Oak Lead Advisory team.  An Associate Advisor is assigned a minimum of 100 households with a maximum 165 households. 

 

Compensation & Benefits

The Associate Advisor’s salary is commensurate with experience and will be consistent with industry salary surveys within our competitive marketplace.  If new clients come to Charter Oak from the primary efforts of the Associate Advisor, the advisor would be entitled to Variable Compensation.

An Advisor Associate will have the opportunity to work remotely 1-2 days per week depending on their in-office schedule and only once full training and in-office learning with all Partners is completed.
