Reporting to the President, the Associate Portfolio Manager - Alternatives will be responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and executing investments in non-traditional asset classes, including private equity, venture capital, private credit and real estate.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Research and Due Diligence:
    • Guided by the firm’s investment philosophy, conduct thorough research on various alternative investments; make recommendations on which funds should be included in firm’s recommended offerings.
    • Evaluate potential investment opportunities by assessing their risk-return profiles, liquidity, and alignment with client objectives.
    • Evaluate the track record, strategy, and operational aspects of fund managers associated with alternative investments.
    • Perform ongoing due diligence to ensure the continued suitability and performance of selected fund managers.
  • Portfolio Analysis:
    • Analyze existing portfolios to identify opportunities for incorporating alternative investments and optimizing overall asset allocation. Make recommendations on weighting of securities within portfolios.
    • Determine optimal rebalancing between alternatives securities and public securities.
    • Assess the impact of alternative investments on portfolio performance.
    • Provide regular updates on the performance of existing alternative investments and their impact on overall portfolio strategy for the weekly Investment Committee Meeting.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to alternative investments.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders, summarizing performance, risk metrics, and outlook for alternative investments.
    • Communicate complex investment strategies and recommendations to advisors for education.
  • Client Education:
    • Prepare written and visual material for clients to better understand what alternatives they own and why they own them.
    • As subject matter expert on alternatives, be prepared to educate advisory team as well as clients on firm’s recommended holdings and outlook.

  Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required;
  • Master’s Degree, CIMA, or CFA preferred.
  • 2+ years of proven experience analyzing alternative investments.
  • Logical decision-making skills with the ability to identify key drivers and efficiently, effectively assess the risk/reward of investments.
  • Ability to translate research into actionable ideas for client portfolios.
  • Team player who seeks tasks/projects through to completion in a timely manner.
  • Proficient technology skills, including MS Office (Excel), CRM and internal portal technology.
    • Experience with iCapital, CAIS, or other alternative investment platform a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $90,000 - $120,000/year, plus 10-30% discretionary performance bonus paid out bi-annually.
    • Total Compensation with Bonus = $99,000 - $156,000.
  • 401(k) plan with opportunity to earn up to 7% the first year and 10% with tenure.
