We are a financial planning and wealth management firm and have been in business for over 25 years. We help individuals save for major financial goals such as retirement and children's educations and help them manage their investment assets.
Interns will walk away with a good understanding of Pennington Wealth Management and Ameriprise Financial, our culture, as well as our PWM team and mission to provide the best client experience in the industry. Interns will get exposure to key team members, key processes, key industry and company topics and be a part of key initiatives and deliverables that drive the business.
I. Projects/Activities to be assigned to intern.
a. Prepare financial advisor for annual client wealth management meetings – run portfolio reports, research client files for relevant changes and topics to cover, collect data and prepare client fundamental sheets, prepare client net worth statements, prepare client retirement scenarios, review and log outstanding assets for future opportunities, sit on advisor’s meetings and document the conversations.
b. Prepare client comprehensive financial analysis – review client’s financial information, put data into financial analysis software, work with Financial Planning case analysts and Financial Advisor to draft deliverable and recommendations for client.
c. Submit annual managed accounts reviews – after financial advisor’s review of suitability of the accounts, document the discussion and submit documentation to corporate office to meet annual compliance requirements.
II. Preferred field of study/major
a. Preferred major: Finance with a track in personal financial planning and an interest in sales.
III. Training opportunities provided
a. The best training opportunity will be to sit on calls and meetings and learn how we address client questions and concerns and how they present financial planning analysis and wealth management options to potential clients and current clients. Interns will receive direct training from Financial Planning Specialists and Client Service Specialists on preparing advisors for meetings.
IV. Benefits available outside intern's assigned job duties (networking, workshops/speakers,mentoring)
a. Interns will have access to top level Ameriprise economists and market strategists’ commentary and white papers. Interns will have access to a monthly portfolio manager’s market commentary. The senior client service team will take on an informal mentoring role if the intern is interested in becoming an advisor in the future.
V. Software/equipment intern is expected to use and training
a. Microsoft Office suite: The intern should have an understanding of basic Excel and Word functions. We will provide training on how we specifically use these tools for our business.
b. Naviplan and MoneyGuide Pro: Training will be provided.
