ABOUT YOU
As the Lead Financial Planner, you are at the heart of our Financial Planning team, guiding Associates and managing projects that align with our fabulous clients’ visions and the firm's strategy. You run client meetings, develop complex financial plans, and ensure they are implemented with ease. With a focus on client needs, you delegate tasks, simplify challenges, and coach the Financial Planning and Client Experience teams to action.
You also play a key role in shaping our business strategies, growing the firm’s client base, and ensuring we stay compliant with industry best practices and fiduciary standards. You work closely with all departments, firm vendors, and clients' allies to foster a proactive, learning-driven environment that reflects our values, firm strategies, and impact goals.
SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES IN YOUR DEPARTMENT
Your department-specific responsibilities are where your talents for planning and people truly shine. Through meaningful contributions to our team and our clients you help make Modernist’s mission a collective success.
You work closely with our Senior Planner/CEO to lead team-based planning for our fabulous clients. On average we spend 90-125 hours per client to maintain and implement their financial plan and portfolios. You are enlivened by this work and seek to be the most skillful CFP possible.
TYPICAL DUTIES: YOUR DAILY WHY
LEAD CLIENT MEETINGS: Use Financial Life Planning best practices to lead client meetings (Strategy, Tax Planning, and Implementation), address routine questions, and escalate concerns as needed. Lead your own client meetings and hold second seat in Senior Planner’s meetings.
FINANCIAL PLANNING LEAD: Serve as Modernist’s expert on financial planning strategies and the tax and legal changes that impact our plans. Prepare detailed financial plan scenarios for Senior Planner’s review. Deliver recommendations to clients and allies.
COLLABORATE: Manage plan implementation with Associates, transition tasks to the Client Experience department, problem solve as issues arise. Work with vendors and partners to achieve clients' goals. Oversee financial planning operations projects that will drive excellence and efficiencies of craft in our planning processes.
PROCESSES YOU SUPPORT
CLIENT RELATIONSHIP: Guide prospective clients to discover mutual fit, onboard new clients ease fully, manage current clients’ annual cycles to inspire retention and referrals.
CLIENT MEETINGS: Use Modernist's internal systems to thoroughly prep and follow-up for clients’ meetings. Deliver financial plans that inspire client implementation. Maintain clean systems for record keeping and task management.
CLIENT FINANCIAL PLAN: Design and maintain financial plans in Money GuidePro, design recommendations and implementation strategies, honor and preserve qualitative information. Transfer tasks and supports stucks for Client Experience department implementation.
INVESTMENT RECOMMENDATIONS: Direct ClientExperience team to implement and maintain portfolio, account, and tax planning recommendations and revisions.
ALLIED PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Collaborate to complete clients’ plan implementation projects and inspire referrals from our allied professionals.

EXPERTISE & OVERSIGHT: You set an example of an engaged work ethic aligned with Modernist’s four core values.
COMPONENTS OF A TYPICAL WEEK
TEAM LEADERSHIP & PROJECT MANAGEMENT (20%)—Mentor Associates, manage client and firm projects, while delegating to Seniors and Associates to enhance efficiency.
CLIENT MEETINGS& PLAN IMPLEMENTATION (50%)—Lead meetings, draft plans, oversee plan implementation, complete prep and follow-up for all appointments.
STRATEGIC & FIRM OVERSIGHT (30%)—Maintain firm systems, ensure compliance, and align non-client work to drive firm strategy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & PROFICIENCY
REQUIRED: Series 65, CFP designation (minimum of 5 years), Advanced CFP Education in one or more topics, evidence-based investing philosophy, Office 365, GoogleWorkspace.
PREFERRED: Money Quotient practitioner, Money Guide Pro, Redtail, Envestnet.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS & CONDITIONS
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to remain stationary (sitting or standing)for 1-2 hours at a time. Ability to work on a computer most of the day (sit-stand desks provided). Some filing and errands are required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
