The responsibilities of the Director of Financial Planning are to provide leadership and oversight of the Financial Planning business units’ day to day operations. Additionally, the Director of Financial Planning provides case consultation and education to grow and strengthen the Financial Representatives integrated planning practice.
Specific responsibilities include but will not be limited to:
Team lead for the overall success of the business unit, including any services provided by the Home Office
Track and measure work received and completed within the unit
Measure the success of the individual subscriber’s practice
Set and adhere to standards such as services offered, pricing, turnaround times and quality
Align services across the Network Offices, Districts and Home Offices to ensure a consistent experience for both the Advisor and client
Establish and maintain agreements with subscribers
Recommend and implement process improvements in daily operations to enhance quality and productivity
Drive a planning culture within the Office and champion Planning the Northwestern Mutual Way.
Partner with other leaders in the office to ensure new Financial Representatives practice is off to a successful start.
Partner with office supervision leaders to ensure compliance by financial representatives and the financial planning department staff with all applicable laws, regulations and company rules related to the sale and servicing of insurance and securities products.
Consultation and Education
Promote, utilize, and reinforce a planning culture aligned to Northwestern Mutual’s planning philosophy and best practices
Provide one on one case consultation on:
Northwestern Mutual’s planning process including life stage planning along with mentoring on how to present a plan to a client
Product options based on the needs of the client, risk profile, time horizon and preferences. The product options need to be in the best interest of the client, ensuring the risk needs are met first. Inform the financial representative of any potential tax consequences, costs and/or breakpoint information and provide mentoring on how to present the product options to the client. Finally, provide clear case specific documentation on the product options and rationale.
Reinforce registered representative adherence with network office business and compliance guidelines
Reinforce the financial representative’s development and growth goals
Identify additional resources for financial representatives to work with (e.g. joint work partners, product line specialists)
Prepare, or collaborate with others, to develop consistent, high quality life stage appropriate plans for every Financial Representative subscribing to the Financial Planning unit
Prepare, or collaborate with others, to develop an integrated package for Financial Representatives to deliver to their clients as part of a pre-sale package
Life, Accident & Health Insurance licenses (in process or soon to be in process)
CFP (in process)
Advisory services and broker/dealer experience with demonstrated investment knowledge and understanding of markets, products, platforms, and services
Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance and/or related industry experience
Minimum of 3-5 years of advisory sales experience
Ability to assess client financial situations and analyze portfolios to develop and implement comprehensive financial plans aligned with client goals
Counsel representatives on a variety of proactive approaches, investments and solutions
Strong analytical, problem solving, and written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail, accuracy and reliability with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
2-3 years financial planning experience
